Roger Griffith’s love for the smell of burning rubber goes way back. As a former drag racer, he always dreamed of driving or riding in NASCAR. However, with cancer slowly consuming his body, he thought that life-long wish had come to a screeching halt.
But on Saturday, May 11, surrounded by over 40 family members and friends, some from as far as Texas, the Prescott resident’s dream came true. As the first recipient of the Mercy Wishes program, he was able to take part in the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Kansas Speedway.

Final work on the Linn County airstrip is beginning as the county has a plan for completing the asphalted tie-down portion of the airport.
County Economic Development Director Dennis Arnold reported Monday that the airport committee had unanimously approved option 2 that puts the tie-down area parallel to the airstrip on the south end of the runway. Arnold said they felt it was the best use of the land and will allow for 10 planes to be tied down.

Kansas Division of Emergency Management urges Kansans to stay on alert for more storms after at least five Kansas counties received damage from tornadoes and strong winds over the weekend.
"We were fortunate that no one was hurt in the storms that hit the state over the weekend, but these storms along with the deadly tornados in Oklahoma Sunday, are a good reminder to all of us to be prepared and to heed the warnings of local officials," said Angee Morgan, deputy director of KDEM.
