• Over 14 trumpeter swans are spotted recently on the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area. The trumpeter swan is the largest of North American waterfowl. It was reduced to near extinction by the early 20th century, but is relatively common in the United States today. According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, trumpeter swans can live longer than 20 years in the wild.
