On April 3, over forty patrons from across the district met in a community-planning meeting held in the JES cafeteria. Members of the Board of Education, staff, Booster Club, Vocational Advisory Council, Site Council, PTO, Chamber of Commerce and other Jayhawk supporters gathered to hear results of the Patron Insight survey, financing analysis for a proposed bond issue and a presentation and discussion about the proposed project for adding new classrooms to both schools.

Superintendent Royce Powelson addressed the crowd and said he was very grateful for the turnout and the support from the community. "We need help as we look at our schools," said Powelson. "We have talked for years about phase two, and have had it in mind since building the cafeteria; our kids deserve better," he said.
