On the beautiful, cool morning of Saturday, July 27, members of the Mooney-Long American Legion Auxiliary Unit 279 from Blue Mound held a ceremony and paid their respects for Vera I. Staples, who passed away many years ago. American Legion Chaplin Karl Rewa read a passage from the New Testament to all those present and gave a blessing over her grave.
Staples was a member of the Blue Mound American Legion Auxiliary as of Dec. 3, 1945, and the mother of Robert Lee Staples, who served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She was born Dec. 18, 1891, and she and her husband operated a restaurant in Blue Mound where they lived for a number of years.Want to read more?
