PLEASANTON – The City of Pleasanton is making plans to institute an across-the-board increase in the water rates.

The increase, $10 additional charge to the monthly minimum rate for each customer, would be applied in an effort to recoup revenues lost when Linn County Rural Water District #2 switched to Public Wholesale Water Supply District #13 and to offset the rising costs of chemicals necessary for treatment of raw water to make it potable.

In recent weeks, the city sent out a newsletter explaining the reasons for the increase and how it would be applied.

"At this point, I’ve received a mixed bag as far as feedback," Director of Operations Tim Staton told the council during the Monday night meeting. "We could never hope to have anyone happy about a rate increase, but I have heard from several people that they appreciated the explanation prior to the increase."

At Staton’s request, the council then asked that attorney Gary Thompson, who was not in attendance, be directed to draft an ordinance establishing the rate increase and have it prepared for review and possible passage at the next regular meeting.
