Cecil Leroy Gaston, 89, of Amoret, Mo., died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler, Mo. He was born June 9, 1920, in Foster, Mo., the son of George W. and Alpha Marie Clark Gaston. He married Dorothy Lorene McCoy on December 24, 1941. She survives of the home.

 

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. After returning from the Army he worked for Kansas City Southern Railroad for many years until his employment with Pittman Manufacturing in Grandview, Mo., where he worked for over 25 years. He also owned and operated a television and radio shop in Amoret and he was known as the "Amoret Handyman," working on such things as wiring, plumbing and remodeling. Cecil was also a Cub Scout and Boy Scout scoutmaster in Amoret for many years. He was a member of the Amoret Christian Church. Cecil enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wayne, Delbert, Orville and George; one sister, Edith Stanton; and a son-in-law, James Bradley.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; one son, Cecil (Sonny) Gaston and wife Glenda of Mountain Home, Ark.; two daughters, Joann King and husband Dick of Brookfield, Mo., and Carrie Johnson and husband Keith of Olean, Mo.; one brother, Floyd Gaston, of Butler, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Rob King and wife Connie, Kelly King and wife Mardi, Angie Tieman and husband Kent, Gala Bradley, Caleb Gaston and wife Joy, Cambria Leskowiez and husband Joe, Isaac Gaston and wife Janie; seven step-grandchildren, Erlinda Bloss and husband Dale, Brenda Asher and husband,Donnie, Dana Tarpening and husband Robin, Karen Tarpenning and husband Mark, Lori Elliott and husband Jeff, Kevin Johnson and wife Vicki and Karen Thomas and husband, Steve; twenty-four great-grandchildren and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Amoret Christian Church, Amoret, Mo. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Amoret Christian Church. Interment will be in Benjamin Cemetery, Amoret.
