June Fossey was born and raised in Prescott, Kan. "One thing about Prescott, all around the whole neighborhood were ponds, and you could go fishing. I was the oldest and I had two younger brothers. All of us kids would go fishing and we would come home with catfish," she said.

"Mother had a huge iris garden. And she knew how to take care of those irises, a heck of a lot better than I did," June remembered.
