Summer ball culminates with tournaments
By ALLYSON JAMES
Ballplayers across the region have been participating in division tournaments over the past couple of weekends. As the season draws to a close, the children of our communities have enjoyed the experience of one of America’s greatest pastimes.
While some teams traveled to attend tournaments, the U10 softball tournament (girls’ softball for ages 10 and under) took place at Prairie View. Sixteen teams participated in this two-day tournament. At the U10 level, the game takes on a new life as the girls now start pitching. However, as they are still learning this skill, the coaches step in and pitch when four balls are reached. This allows for an exciting and interactive game experience for all. This tournament was won by a Louisburg team. Junkyard Dawgs, a team comprised of girls from the La Cygne community and coached by Brad Stainbrook and Randy Epting, placed fourth.
