From the earliest Chinese dolls created using an ancient form of embroidery stitching, through India, Persia, Turkey and North Africa, and into Europe, crocheting has undergone an evolutionary process. What began when background fabric was stretched taut on a frame developed into what the French called "crochet in the air," working a stitch with only the thread and a hook, from the word croc or croche, Middle French for hook.
What one man may think is "no big deal," is more often than not looked at as an artful treasure that was created by a talented craftsman. Merriam-Webster defines an artist as a person with a high level of knowledge or skill in a field. One such artisan is Herman Edwards.
