James L. “Jim” Davis, 81, of Louisburg, Kan., passed away on Dec. 23, 2016, at his home.
Jim was born Nov. 24, 1935, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Archie and Juanita Seifert Davis. He was united in marriage to Dettie Lou McChesney on Dec. 13, 1959.
Jim served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Frontier from 1954-1959. He was a 50-year member of Sheet Metal International Association Local No. 2. His navy and construction career allowed him to travel the world to places including Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.
Jim retired in 2002 to enjoy spending time at Lake of the Ozarks in their summer home with family and friends. He had a passion for gardening and sharing his blackberries, tomatoes and pumpkins. He also enjoyed riding his horse in the American Royal Parade, farming, and taking his grandchildren on rides in the golf cart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sue Fletcher; and his beloved Sheltie, Heidi.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dettie; son Bill (Tammy) Davis; daughters Jan (Augie) Hurst and Traci (Pat) Storey; grandchildren Chelsea and Dettie Lou Davis, Brian (Casey) Vohs, Kaitlyn Giesch, Jack Niebaum, and Patrick, Ashley and Libby Storey; and great-grandsons Brayden and Garrett Vohs.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Louisburg United Methodist Church, 249 N. Metcalf, Louisburg. Memorial service will follow visitation at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
